Desowen Ointment treats various skin conditions. Desowen reduces the swelling, itching and redness in these conditions. It is a mild corticosteroid.
Desowen Ointment is usually applied two to four times a day. Apply it at around the same times every day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Use Desowen Ointment exactly as directed.
Your skin condition should improve during the first two weeks of your treatment with the ointment. Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve during this time.
This medication is only for use on the skin. Do not let Desowen Ointment get into your eyes, nose, or mouth and do not swallow it. Avoid use in the genital and rectal areas, skin creases, and armpits unless directed by your doctor.
To use Desowen, apply a small amount of ointment to cover the affected skin area with a thin, even film and rub it in gently.
Do not wrap or bandage the treated area unless your doctor tells you to. Such use may increase side effects.

Can Desowen Ointment lead to breakouts?
Desowen Ointment can cause acne, especially in the areas where you apply the medication. If you have a history of acne problems, you should talk to your provider before starting this medication or any other topical steroids.
