Oracea is a prescription medicine used to treat the symptoms of various bacterial infections such as acne, urinary tract infections, intestinal infections, eye infections, sexually transmitted infections (gonorrhea, chlamydia), periodontitis and Rickettsial Infections.
Oracea may be used alone or with other medications.
Take this medication exactly as your doctor has prescribed it. Usually, Oracea is best taken by mouth on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal, usually once daily in the morning or as directed by your doctor. Swallow the capsules whole. Do not crush or chew the capsules. Doing so can release all of the drug at once, increasing the risk of side effects.
?Take this medication with a full glass of water (8 ounces/240 milliliters) unless directed otherwise. If stomach upset occurs, taking it with food or milk may help.?
Do not lie down for at least 10 minutes after taking this medication.
Before using Oracea, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: kidney disease, liver disease, problems swallowing, esophagus problems (such as hiatal hernia, reflux disease-GERD), stomach surgery (such as gastrectomy, gastric bypass surgery), lupus.
This medication may make you more sensitive to the sun. Limit your time in the sun. Avoid tanning booths and sunlamps. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors. Tell your doctor right away if you get sunburned or have skin blisters/redness.
What is Oracea?
Oracea is used to treat blemishes, bumps, and acne-like lesions caused by rosacea in adults. It works by reducing skin inflammation caused by rosacea.
Oracea is a tetracycline antibiotic. Tetracyclines are often used to treat infections.
Can you drink alcohol while taking Oracea?
While it is usually considered safe to drink alcohol while taking Oracea, talk to your doctor about your specific case. Some health professionals will recommend you avoid alcohol whilst you are taking antibiotics for an infection to give your body the best chance possible to fight the infection.
What are Oracea side effects during pregnancy?
Taking Oracea during pregnancy may affect tooth and bone development in the unborn baby. Additionally, during the last half of pregnancy can cause permanent tooth discoloration later in the baby's life. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or if you become pregnant while using this medicine.
Oracea can make birth control pills less effective. Ask your doctor about using a non-hormonal birth control (condom, diaphragm with spermicide) to prevent pregnancy.
