Tazorac Gel is used to treat acne and psoriasis (a skin disease in which red, scaly patches form on some body areas). Tazorac Gel reduces facial wrinkling and discoloration in patients using other skin care and sunlight avoidance programs. It works to treat acne and psoriasis by slowing skin cell overgrowth and decreasing skin cell inflammation, which can lead to acne or psoriasis. It works to reduce facial wrinkles and discoloration by causing an increase in the thickness of the outer skin layers.
Tazorac Gel is for topical use only. Avoid accidental transfer of Tazorac Gel into eyes, mouth, or other mucous membranes. If contact with mucous membranes occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. Wash hands thoroughly after application.
Cleanse the face gently. It is recommended that treatment starts with Tazorac Gel, 0.05%, with strength increased to 0.1% if tolerated and medically indicated. Usually, apply a thin film (2 mg/cm2) of Tazorac Gel once daily in the evening to cover only the psoriatic lesions or acne on no more than 20% of the body surface area.
Tazorac Gel was investigated for up to 12 weeks during clinical trials for psoriasis and acne. Use effective sunscreens and wear protective clothing while using Tazorac Gel.
