What is Vaniqa Cream?

Vaniqa Cream (eflornithine) is a medication which is used to slow down hair growth where applied. It should be used on the face and under the chin and should not be used for hair growth on other parts of the body. Vaniqa Cream slows hair growth and may also make the hair finer or lighter. Vaniqa does not remove hair or cause hair to fall out and does not permanently remove hair or prevent hair growth. This medication works by blocking a natural enzyme which is needed for hair growth.

• Vaniqa is typically applied twice a day, at least eight hours apart. If this medication irritates your skin, you may need to reduce applications to once daily. Vaniqa Cream should only be applied to the face and chin and not to any other part of the body.
• Remove any facial hair at least five minutes before applying. This can be done through your own preferred method such as a razor or tweezers.
• Wash your hands before and after applying this medication. Apply a thin layer of cream to the affected areas and rub it in thoroughly.
• Do not apply eflornithine cream to sunburned, windburned, dry, chapped or irritated skin or to open wounds.
• Do not apply cosmetics or sunscreen until the area has completely dried. Wait at least four hours before washing the treated areas.
• Vaniqa is not a hair remover but will reduce facial hair growth gradually. It may take over eight weeks before you notice improvement. Tell your doctor if your condition or skin irritation does not improve.
