Viokace is a prescription medicine used with a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) to treat adults who cannot digest food normally. Adults with swelling of the pancreas that lasts a long time or of their pancreas removed may not digest food normally because they do not make enough enzymes or because their enzymes are not released into the bowel.

Take Viokace tablets exactly as your doctor tells you. Swallow Viokace tablets whole. Do not crush or chew the tablets. Be careful to make sure that no Viokace is left in your mouth. Crushing, chewing or holding the Viokace tablets in your mouth may irritate your mouth or change how Viokace works in your body.

Before using Viokace, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, if you are allergic to it or pork products, or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor for more details, especially for:

• Gout.
• Kidney disease.
• The high uric acid level in the blood (hyperuricemia).
• Intestinal problems (such as blockage).

A very serious allergic reaction to this medication is rare. However, get medical help immediately if you notice any symptoms, including rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing.

Common side effects of Viokace may include:

• gallstones
• anal itching
• nausea
• vomiting
• stomach pain or upset
• diarrhea

What is viokace?
